UPDATE: This article is an April Fool’s joke. Tesla is on the brink of collapse - not because of a lack of innovation, but because Elon Musk's political involvement has spooked investors. After his latest tweet on X went viral, Tesla's share price crashed overnight. Now, according to leaked internal documents, the company is launching a desperate fire sale to get rid of its EVs.

UPDATE: This article is an April Fool’s joke. If you've ever dreamed of owning a Tesla EV, but haven't had the financial means to do so, now is the time for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The company is launching an emergency sale next week, according to reliable leaker @itstruebelieveme on Reddit. The promotion will only last for a short duration, and will include massive discounts on popular vehicles like the Model 3, Model Y, and Cybertruck.

Unsurprisingly, the misery is due to Elon Musk's recent involvement in politics. He made himself unpopular in Germany in particular, but also across Europe, with his public relations work for the right-wing populist AFD party. He also made international headlines with a particular kind of hand salute at the inauguration of President Donald Trump. Since these and other actions by Elon Musk, sales figures for the first quarter of 2025 have already plummeted across Europe, but his latest tweet on the X platform on 31 March has now completely destroyed his credibility:

All Teslas must now turn right only - to respect the Earth's rotation! Except for the Mars Rovers, because on Mars we believe in freedom... and sensible traffic laws.

- Elon Musk on X

From next week until 7 May, the Tesla Model 3 will be priced at just $5,999, while the Model X starts at $6,666 and the Cybertruck at $9,999. But before you rush out to buy a discounted Tesla, you might want to check the fine print - because nothing says "bargain" like hidden surprises:

  • Free supercharging: Between 2:04am and 2:06am at select stations in Wyoming
  • Software locked: Autopilot only works in reverse
  • Warranty terms: Battery lasts at least 12 months - or until Elon tweets a new Bitcoin joke
  • Cybertruck special regulation: rust is not a defect, but patinated retro charm

The sale of the century comes with a special addendum not to be missed - because the article is, of course, completely fictitious. To all those who have read this far through misquotes and other nonsense, Notebookcheck wishes you a happy 1st of April.
