Imagine you're driving in Los Angeles, and you accidentally run a red light. You glance in your rearview mirror and spot a police car behind you. The thought of flooring the accelerator might briefly cross your mind, but you’ll need to think twice now, since the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is adding a high-speed Tesla Model S Plaid to its fleet.
That's right, Unplugged Performance has introduced the first-ever Tesla Model S Plaid police vehicle for high-speed law enforcement duties. Dubbed the "UP.FIT Plaid Pursuit," this electric patrol car boasts over 1,000 horsepower, capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph (0-100 kph) in just 1.99 seconds. It’s a serious upgrade for police forces, especially for chasing high-performance vehicles that have a way higher chance of evading arrest.
The car is equipped with custom forward and rear-facing lights integrated into the bodywork for aerodynamics, along with side skirt and bumper lights. It also includes high and low-frequency sirens, making it fully compliant with California’s Highway Patrol regulations.
Underneath, the police-ready Model S features upgraded brakes and lightweight forged wheels for improved handling. The vehicle is currently showcased at the SEMA show in Las Vegas, where the latest advancements in EV technology for police applications are being showcased. The stealthy design and rapid acceleration of the Model S Plaid police car will undoubtedly be a powerful deterrent on the road, which could even mislead unsuspecting speeders into thinking it's just another EV. Good luck evading this one though!
