Verdict - A comfy ride on and off road

The Tenways Wayfarer, if anything, is a seriously comfortable e-Bike. With a step-through design, multi-point shock absorption, and speed settings that inspire safety and confidence from the jump, this e-bike has squarely addressed all aspects related to a comfortable riding experience, even on rougher terrain. While the bike is certainly on the heavier side, the trade-off is a system that feels solidly built with a riding experience worthy of the cruiser moniker.

Cons

- Total weight of ~66 lbs makes it a workout for carrying up stairs.
- Large physical footprint requires significant storage space.
- Large size may be difficult for smaller riders to handle

Unboxing and Setup

The Tenways Wayfarer comes in a large box, with adequate protection found throughout. One thoughtful difference between this packaging experience and that of the Tenways CGO600 is that the front wheel was packed separately rather than strapped to the bike frame. This ensured that the rim was protected during shipping, and there were no bent spokes. The bike itself came together fairly quickly, with most accessories already installed. Another appreciated design choice is that the battery cover is separate from the battery itself; often, the cover is the battery skin, so finding a replacement also requires finding a battery in the same color. All in all, the unpacking experience from unboxing to riding took a little over an hour.

Performance and Design

The Wayfarer's design clearly prioritizes accessibility and rider comfort. The step-through aluminum frame eliminates the difficulty of mounting a high top tube, while the multi-point shock-absorption system effectively manages road vibrations. When paired with versatile Kenda tires, the bike maintains a plush feel even when navigating light off-road trails. Under the hood, the Bafang rear hub motor provides 65 Nm of torque for hill climbing, which performed well in practice. Also, using both torque and cadence sensors made the power delivery feel natural. Additionally, the dedicated thumb throttle was a nice feature for dedicated acceleration. However, for riders in the US, the speed is capped out of the box, with our testing showing a top speed of 22 MPH. Fortunately, users can raise the top speed to 28 MPH in the app at their discretion. With the default settings, the long-range test showed the reported 85 miles of range was easily attainable, especially with pedal assist. Another noticeable characteristic is that the bike is on the heavier side, at approximately 66 lbs. The trade-off is a system that feels solidly built with a smooth riding experience.

Conclusion

The Tenways Wayfarer strikes a great balance between an outdoor cruiser and a city rider. By focusing heavily on ergonomics, intuitive riding controls, and fidget-free power delivery, it addresses the needs of the everyday rider who wants a dependable, comfortable e-bike. While its weight may be a workout for those in multi-story apartments, its solid build quality and long-range battery make it a serious contender in its price bracket.
