Take-Two Interactive has revealed its plan to buy Zynga for US$12.7 billion to bolster its gaming portfolio with Zynga's mobile gaming titles. Take-Two is the well-known publisher of highly profitable games on PC and console such as the Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption series. Acquiring Zynga is a smart business strategy as the mobile gaming company has seen great success in social games such as FarmVille and Harry Potter: Puzzles and Spells.
The publisher purports that video gaming is the fastest growing sector of the entertainment industry with mobile gaming experiencing the highest growth. Take-Two claims that it will become a major player in the mobile gaming market by combining its library of popular mobile games such as WWE SuperCard with Zynga’s hits to create a wide selection of appealing games across many genres.
Take-Two also hopes to leverage its iconic franchises and their respective global acclaim to build new mobile games while bridging the PC and console communities with mobile. Moreover, taking advantage of Zynga’s Chartboost advertising platform will strengthen audience targeting and allow expansion into lucrative regions such as Asia, India and the Middle East, which are booming in mobile gaming.
