Even as Chinese smartphone brands like OnePlus and Oppo are testing the limits of fast charging, a new company, Swippitt, has taken an entirely different approach that puts it at the front of the pack – at least in sheer speed (though, sadly, not affordability).
The Swippitt system has three components: a large toaster-like 'Hub' that holds up to five swappable batteries, a specially designed ‘Link’ phone case with a built-in battery, and a mobile app for tracking battery usage stats and for other settings. Each battery carries 3,500 mAh of charge, which is a significant boost for pretty much any phone on the market today.
Like other cases with integrated batteries (like the Mophie Juice Pack with 2,400 mAh), the Link case keeps your phone battery topped up when in use. When it runs low, all you have to do is pop it into the hub, and the internal mechanism swaps out the battery in the case with a fresh one, all in two seconds. A neat LED strip around the Hub’s top surface lights up as a confirmation that the operation is complete.
As of now, the Link case is only available for all models of iPhones 14, 15 and 16. By the end of 2025, however, more cases will be added for Android phones, starting with the Samsung Galaxy S and Google Pixel series.
The mobile app gives you some fine control over how and when your phone charges off the battery in the case, depending on the need. It also has a ‘social’ aspect to it, allowing you to monitor and share others’ battery health stats within a predefined ‘Swippitt Circle’ of users.
This may seem like an odd feature until you realise that the system makes a lot of sense as a shared household appliance. Since the Hub holds up to five batteries and can accommodate multiple phones, multiple household members can stop by for a quick battery change as they about their day. Shared use would also go a long way towards justifying the price.
The Hub, with its five included batteries, will retail at $450 (though the wood-finish models are $500), and the Link case, which comes with one battery, is priced at $120. However, there is an introductory discount of 30% for all pre-orders placed in January. Additionally, visitors who pre-order the Hub at CES can avail an extra $100 off. The Swippitt system will start shipping in June this year and preorders can be placed on the company website.
