Steam deal: Open-world fantasy survival RPG drops to its lowest price yet – $2 instead of $40

Outward is an open-world RPG that blends a classic fantasy adventure with tough survival elements. While the title from Nine Dots Studios goes on sale quite often, it had never previously been discounted by more than 88%, according to SteamDB. Now, for the first time, it is available at 95% off, cutting the regular $40 price down to around $2. Anyone who enjoys games like Two Worlds or Gothic may also find plenty to like here. As the game is Steam Deck Verified, it may also be worth a look for handheld players in need of something new to play.

According to GameStar’s German review, Outward captures a classic RPG feel, with flexible character progression across several skill trees, quests with multiple possible solutions, different factions, dungeons, and a wide range of weapons. On top of that, it features complex survival systems: hunger, disease, and weather all contribute to a believable sense of hardship, according to GameStar. In terms of story, Outward takes a grounded approach. Rather than playing a chosen hero, players step into the shoes of an ordinary adventurer trying to survive in the harsh world of Aurai.

Outward keeps its storytelling fairly sparse, features a somewhat clunky combat system, and already felt technically dated when it launched in 2022. Its open world may be large, but it does not feel especially alive. Due to these shortcomings, the game only received 68 out of 100 points in GameStar’s review. On Steam, the RPG holds a 72% positive rating from around 30,000 user reviews. Metacritic paints a similar picture, with a Metascore of 69 and a User Score of 6.6. Still, at a price of just $2, those flaws may be easier to overlook – provided you enjoy unconventional RPGs and challenging survival gameplay.
