Swords & Souls: Neverseen stands out from typical RPGs by replacing the usual leveling system with skill-based mini-games to progress your character. Now available at a 65% discount, it’s offered for the first time at around $5.30.

Swords & Souls: Neverseen launched on July 22, 2019 for PC and later arrived on Nintendo Switch on August 18, 2021 (with the console currently available on Amazon for around $300). Developed by the French indie team SoulGame Studio and published by Armor Games Studios, this charming RPG takes a unique approach to character progression. Instead of a traditional leveling system, the game uses mini-games to train your hero – a refreshing twist that adds both challenge and fun. The quirky cast of characters and the offbeat humor woven throughout the game world further enhance its distinctive appeal.

The story begins with a shipwreck that leaves you stranded on the mysterious island of Neverseen, where you’re soon caught up in a conflict with a powerful witch. The narrative doesn’t take itself too seriously, featuring tongue-in-cheek dialogue and a steady stream of charming surprises. GameSpace called Swords & Souls: Neverseen an addictive throwback to golden afternoons spent gaming with friends before adult life got in the way. The German Nintendo-focused online magazine Ntower also praised the game, highlighting its quick and easy start, immediate sense of progress, and the tactical depth of its battles.

Swords & Souls: Neverseen blends active and passive elements in its combat system. While your hero attacks automatically, you control key actions like blocking, dodging and unleashing special moves. The standout feature is that instead of grinding for experience, you improve your stats – such as strength, agility or magic – by playing entertaining training mini-games. Beyond battles, the game offers plenty of variety. You can upgrade your home, collect treasures for a museum, recruit companions or browse shops in the village. For those still hungry for action after finishing the story, an endless mode with randomly generated enemy waves and high-score challenges keeps the adventure going.

In addition to its accessible gameplay and tactical combat, Ntower highlights the steady character progression with frequent rewards, the flexibility to shape your own playstyle through different weapon types and a talent tree, as well as the game’s overall polished presentation. Stylish visuals, fitting sound design and charming details all contribute to its appeal. That said, the training mini-games can become repetitive over time, and the pace of progression slows as the game advances. Frequent loading screens also dampen the experience. Despite these drawbacks, Ntower gave Swords & Souls: Neverseen a solid 8 out of 10. On Metacritic, the game holds a Metascore of 70 and a User Score of 7.3. Steam users, however, are far more enthusiastic, with over 93% positive reviews from more than 5,000 players.

Cheaper than ever before on Steam

Swords & Souls: Neverseen usually costs about $15 on Steam. While the RPG has seen several discounts before, it has never dropped by more than 60% according to SteamDB – until now. For the first time, and only until July 29, the game is available for just around $5.30 thanks to a 65% discount.
