Spotify and SoundCloud are two big names when it comes to online music streaming, and they could become one quite soon. While nothing is official yet, insiders familiar with this matter claim that the two companies are negotiating a deal that would enforce Spotify's position as leader of the market.
Unfortunately, there is no detailed information about the value or reasons behind such a move, but some things can be easily guessed. Once taken over by Spotify, SoundCloud could provide a wide range of independent music, as well as a rich set of social features. Twitter has purchased a $70 million stake in SoundCloud earlier this year, so remains to see what happens after all.
Compared to the second name in the market, namely Apple Music, Spotify has a very large advantage. While the online music streaming service of the Cupertino-based company has 17 million users, Spotify has no less than 40 million subscribers.
