Sony releases new refreshes of WF-1000XM5 and WH-1000XM5 noise-cancelling headphones
Less than a month has passed since Bose updated its QuietComfort Ultra range with new colour options to celebrate its 60th anniversary. In response, Sony has released new versions of the WF-1000XM5 and WH-1000XM5, which have been around for over a year and two years, respectively. Unfortunately, the company has not replaced the pair with sixth-generation successors.
Instead, it has simply added a new colour option for both devices. Specifically, the WF-1000XM5 and WH-1000XM5 are now available in Smoky Pink, or Lilac Rose in some European markets. In a press release, Sony describes the new finish as:
This colour offers new ways to accessorise and complement your style with a pink tint and elegant undertones, making for a sound-enhancing fashion staple!
The new Smoky Pink colour is soft and sophisticated, with a powdery matte texture that boosts your style.
Fundamentally, the new Smoky Pink variants are the same earbuds and headphones as the original WF-1000XM5 and WH-1000XM5. Added to that, Sony is not offering its new releases with launch discounts, either. As a result, the WF-1000XM5 sells for £299 in the UK, €329.99 in Europe and $399.99 in the US. Meanwhile, the updated WH-1000XM5 retails for £219.99, €249 and $299.99 in the same markets. Please note that although Smoky Pink SKUs will begin shipping later this month across Europe and the UK, US pre-orders will not be fulfilled until mid-October for the WH-1000XM5 and late October for the WF-1000XM5.
