Simple Phone launches for €399 devoid of Google with SimpleOS
Simple Mobile Tools has introduced the Simple Phone, a smartphone that looks rather unspectacular at first glance. Resembling many mid-range smartphones, the Simple Phone also relies on unremarkable hardware. Specifically, the device features the MediaTek Helio P60, a four-year-old chipset at this point.
Additionally, Simple Mobile Tools includes 4 GB of RAM, 128 GB of storage and a 4,500 mAh battery, along with a 1080p IPS display. Surprisingly, the company has opted for a 25 MP front-facing camera, as well as three rear-facing cameras consisting of 48 MP, 8 MP and 5 MP sensors. Unfortunately, Simple Mobile Tools has not confirmed what functions the 8 MP and 5 MP sensors serve. Presumably, they are ultra-wide-angle and macro cameras.
Arguably the most interesting element of the Simple Phone is its software, SimpleOS. Based on Android 11 via the Lunar Open Mobile Platform, SimpleOS lacks any Google services, whether that be Google Mobile Services (GMS) or the Google Play Store. Instead, Simple Mobile Tools bundles F-Droid, an alternative and open-source app store.
The Simple Phone is orderable now for €399 via the company's website. Supposedly, Simple Mobile Tools will offer two years of warranty with orders and three years of software updates. The Simple Phone will start shipping on November 1, 2022.
