Space continues to surprise many scientists, and this was recently the case with a system that challenges certain beliefs. And needless to say, this may remind you of a world-famous sci-fi franchise.
Therefore, we must turn to the TOI-2267 system, which contains two cold stars located approximately 1.2 billion kilometers from each other. And while this distance may seem significant to you, it is very small on the scale of the universe, causing considerable instability.
But that's not all, because Sebastián Zúñiga-Fernández, a researcher from the ExoTIC group at the University of Liege, and his team have discovered two Earth-like exoplanets in this system, and some evidence suggests that a third exoplanet of the same size could also be present.
Furthermore, the configuration of this system is remarkable. According to their estimations, two planets orbit around the first star and the third around the second star, which is reminiscent of Tatooine in Star Wars.
Not to mention that this system also sets a few records, being the most compact pair of stars with planets, but also the coldest. However, while these discoveries were made possible by observing the transit of these planets around their stars, many questions remain unanswered.
And although this system is a world first, further studies will be necessary, particularly to understand how it was formed. And if we go further, it could become a space laboratory, allowing us to better understand our universe.
