Samsung intros the Galaxy A8 (2018) and A8+ (2018) with dual front camera and Infinity Display
Earlier today, Samsung introduced the next-gen Galaxy A handsets. Simply dubbed the Galaxy A8 (2018) and the Galaxy A8+ (2018), these are the first Galaxy A series phones to feature support for Samsung Gear VR. These two mid-rangers also come with a few flagship features, including the Infinity Display and a dual front camera setup with Live Focus.
Both the Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) and the Galaxy A8+ (2018) are powered by an octa-core processor with twp 2.2 GHz cores and six cores with a clock speed of 1.6 GHz. These specs make it certain that the chip is Samsung's Exynos 7885, but this fact is not mentioned in the official press release.
Although the Galaxy A8 (2018) has a 5.6-inch display and the screen of the Galaxy A8+ (2018) has 6 inches, both use a Super AMOLED panel with 1,080 x 2,220 pixels. The camera setup is also the same in both handsets: a 16 MP unit on the back with f/1.7 aperture, while the front accommodates a 16 MP sensor and an 8 MP one, both with f/1.9 aperture.
The 5.6-inch Galaxy A8 handset comes with only 4 GB RAM and 32 GB or 64 GB internal storage, but its 6-inch sibling also gets a 6 GB RAM variant while keeping the same two internal storage choices.
The list of connectivity features of these two new handsets includes NFC/MFS for contactless payments, 4G LTE, dual-band WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0, ANT+, USB Type-C, as well as GPS with GLONASS and BeiDou support. Although Android 8.0 Oreo has been around for a while, Samsung apparently chose to launch the new Galaxy A8 devices with Android 7.1.1 Nougat onboard.
Both the Galaxy A8 (2018) and the Galaxy A8+ (2018) come with IP68-rated resistance to water and dust, microSD support up to 256 GB, and Gear VR support (a first for the Galaxy A series). The list of color options includes black, gold, grey, and blue.
For now, there is no information about the prices, but we should find out everything next month when both the Galaxy A8 (2018) and the Galaxy A8+ (2018) are scheduled to hit the market.
