For a limited period certain teachers will be able to pick up a brand new Samsung Series 5 Chromebook for an incredible price of just $99. The entry-level device is already priced at the affordable $249.99 but thanks to Google and the website DonorsChoose.org, public school teachers can apply for one at less than half the usual retail price.
For such an inexpensive device, the Samsung Chromebook starts with reasonable specifications (model XE303C12-A01US): 11.6-inch LED HD screen with a 1366x768 resolution, 2 GB RAM, Samsung Exynos 5 Dual processor and a small 16 GB solid state drive, although the machine has been designed for just using on the internet, so higher storage space is unnecessary. The high-end device in the range, the Series 5 3G Wireless Chromebook (model XE550C22-H01US), offers a 12.1-inch screen with a 1280x800 resolution, 4 GB RAM, Intel Celeron Processor 867 and a 16 GB SSD.
To apply for this discount, teachers should head over to DonorsChoose.org and create an account. A very short questionnaire needs to be completed and a suitable project needs to be submitted. Teachers can apply for up to 30 of the devices and have until December 21, 2012 to apply. The 11.6-inch Samsung Chromebook (XE303C12-A01US) currently retails at $249.99 with the 12.1-inch version (XE550C22-H01US) costing $549.99.
