CES 2013 | Samsung showcases Series 7 Chronos, Series 7 Ultra and new Series 9

Samsung showcases two updated Series 7 notebooks with touchsceen and Radeon HD 8870M graphics options with aluminum chassis and a Series 9 concept

Although the updated Series 7 Chronos and Series 7 Ultra have been known prior to CES 2013, this is the first time Samsung has publicly displayed both notebooks as well as a new Series 9 concept. The Series 7 Chronos (700Z5E) will be even more powerful with upgraded features packaged in a sleek design. The updated Series 7 Ultra (730U3E) will also include updated specs, power, graphics, and controls.

The new Series 7 Chronos packs in more power in a smaller aluminum housing. The 15.6-inch full HD touchscreen display is powered by a high-end Core i7-3635QM and an AMD Radeon HD 8870M GPU with 2 GB GDDR5 VRAM. Samsung boasts resume-from-sleep time of up to 2 seconds and a cold boot time of under 12 seconds.

Meanwhile, the Series 7 Ultra is the lightweight aluminum Ultrabook with an Intel ULV Core i5 or i7 CPU and graphics options up to a Radeon HD 8570M. The full HD 13.3-inch display will also be available with touchscreen options. Storage is provided by a 256 GB SSD and Samsung claims up to 8 hours of constant use.

Samsung intends to market the Series 7 as a "Slim & Performance" lineup with the thinness of an Ultrabook but with much more power. Both models, including the touchscreen variants, are expected to launch this February. Samsung also intends to update the Series 7 notebooks as soon as Intel Haswell chips become available.

Alongside the two Series 7 models is an all-white conceptual Series 9 notebook. The high-end range will utilize a unibody design and left an excellent visual impression, but the manufacturer has yet to reveal additional details on the hardware refresh.
