The specifications of Samsung's next folding smartphone have been finalised, so claim leakers from South Korea. Apparently, a launch date by May, or a release alongside the Galaxy Z Fold3 this summer, is likely.

According to several leakers, the next Galaxy Z Flip will receive multiple improvements over the current model. Key improvements should be thinner bezels, a less pronounced punch-hole and a smaller footprint overall thanks to a slimmed-down chassis. Nonetheless, leakers claim that Samsung will equip the next Galaxy Z Flip with a 3,700 mAh or 3,800 mAh battery, a capacity that would be 400 mAh to 500 mAh larger one than it included in the Galaxy Z Flip 5G. As we reported previously, Samsung has allegedly upgraded the cameras of its compact foldable smartphone to include a 64 MP telephoto camera. The megapixels of the primary, ultra-wide and front-facing cameras remain identical, but the quality of these sensors may have been improved, too.

Likewise, Samsung is expected to increase the size of the Galaxy Z Flip's cover display to between 1.8 and 2.0-inches. Even at 1.8-inches, this would be a notable improvement from the 1.1-inch cover display that Samsung included in the Galaxy Z Flip 5G. On the other hand, another leaker believes that the cover display will only measure 1.3-inches, which would be less impressive of a change in our opinion. Either way, we hope that the next Galaxy Z Flip has a larger cover display, as the current one is less useful than the equivalent in the Motorola Razr 5G.

Samsung has apparently made big changes to the interior display, too. These changes include adopting a variable 120 Hz refresh rate, which would see Samsung equip the next Galaxy Z Flip with an LTPO display. Additionally, Samsung has reputedly improved the durability of its ultra thin glass (UTG) equivalent to a 4 or a 5 on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness, as we reported last week. If both rumours are true, then this year's Galaxy Z Flip will not only have a more responsive display than its predecessor, but a hardier and potentially more power-efficient one, too.

Samsung is expected to announce the next Galaxy Z Flip as early as May 2021. Alternatively, the company may unveil the device alongside the Galaxy Z Fold3, which put its release back to the summer. Max Weinbach believes that the Z Flip3 launch will not occur in May, mind you. Weinbach has not offered any reasoning behind the statement, but it was definitive, nonetheless. Unsurprisingly, the next Galaxy Z Flip is expected to retail for anywhere between US$1,280 and US$1,350.
