A lot of rumors surrounding the future Galaxy S8 have reached us today. The most controversial of the lot might be the likely death of the headphone jack, that Samsung is said to omit from the Galaxy S8, similar to what Apple decided to do on the iPhone 7 back in September. Samsung made fun of Apple for doing so in August while introducing the Galaxy Note 7 but according to sources reporting to Sammobile, Samsung may go down the same path with the Galaxy S8 early next year.
Stereo Speakers and USB-C
Instead of the headphone jack, Samsung might integrate a bigger battery and stereo speakers, possibly from Harman, the company that Samsung bought not too long ago. More space for the battery is a good thing since independent engineers recently found out that the battery problem in the troubled Galaxy Note 7 originated from too little space between the battery and its surroundings. Instead of the Micro-USB port on the Galaxy S7, Samsung will switch to USB-C on the Galaxy S8.
QHD-Display with RGB array
We already told you, that Samsung is said to increase the display size in both Galaxy S8 models to 5.7 inch in the smaller version and 6.2 inch in the plus-version. According to new rumors, Samsung will retain the QHD resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels but increase display quality substantially by using an RGB array instead of a PenTile arrary in the Galaxy S7. That way, Samsung will increase pixel count from 7,372,800 to 11,059,200 pixels without increasing resolution. This move will increase display quality especially for Virtual Reality applications.
Fingerprint sensor beneath the display
To increase the display area further, Samsung will likely ditch the Home Button on the Galaxy S8. Instead, Samsung is rumored to integrate an optical fingerprint sensor beneath the display. We already told you, that Samsung might integrate Autofocus functionality into the selfie cam on the Galaxy S8. Now this just got more likely to come true thanks to a new trademark Samsung recently filed called SmartAF. The Galaxy S8 will be introduced during Mobile World Congress in Barcelona at the end of February 2017.
