Reports from users of the Samsung Galaxy Ring have been circulating on Reddit and elsewhere for months now, claiming that after a few months of use, the smart ring's battery only lasts a few hours instead of the advertised seven days. In isolated cases, users have even reported swollen batteries that render the Galaxy Ring unusable.
Daniel from Zone of Tech has just reported how the battery of his Galaxy Ring swelled while he was about to board a plane. Because of the swollen battery, he was forced to cancel his flight and sent directly to hospital, where the ring could be removed without cutting it. This is the only safe solution in view of the titanium casing and the risk of explosion if the battery is punctured. The swollen battery is clearly visible in the photos in the X-post embedded below.
According to Daniel, the swollen ring was painful and the bulge made it impossible to remove without assistance. Since swollen batteries can sometimes catch fire, this incident could have had a much more serious outcome and once again highlights that products with integrated batteries should be designed so that they can be quickly removed in an emergency, even if the casing is deformed or the battery is swollen. Samsung has not yet officially commented on the Galaxy Ring's battery problems.
