The Galaxy Note series has had its brand tarnished by abrupt battery combustion last year, but the Note 8 is indeed coming this year in what could be an August release.

The fiery rise and fall of the Galaxy Note 7 hasn’t dissuaded Samsung from moving forward with its successor, the Galaxy Note 8. According to the company’s first quarter financial report, they’ll be releasing a “new flagship smartphone” in the latter half of 2017. This is a similar release schedule they’ve used with previous Galaxy Note devices over the past few years, typically opting for an August launch.

This is great news for people who love the Galaxy Note series, as some fans worried that the Note 7 debacle would force Samsung to abandon the line. The fate of the Note 8 rests in the hands of Samsung’s marketing department and their ability to show consumers that they have learned from their mistake and have more stringent measures in place to prevent it from happening again.

Speculators thought that Samsung might accelerate production of the Galaxy Note 8 to fill in the void left by the Note 7, but it seems like this will not be the case. Perhaps Samsung has learned its lesson with the Note 7, which may not have undergone the usual rigorous testing due to a rushed production schedule in anticipation of the 2016 iPhones.
