If successful on the entry-level Galaxy J2, Samsung may expand the feature for its mainstream and high-end offerings as well.

The Galaxy J2 2016 will likely be a run-of-the-mill affordable smartphone in terms of design and specifications. The new Smart Glow feature, however, aims to differentiate the device from the sea of other mainstream and budget smartphones in the market. The RGB color ring around the rear camera could act like a notification light for messages, selfies, and even weather. Smart Glow was mentioned in detail on a leaked manual for the Galaxy J2 2016 via Winfuture and new images of the smartphone in Gold and Black color options seem to confirm these findings.

The RGB ring can pulse in different colors to alert the user of any incoming messages or calls. When taking selfies, the ring can light up when the software properly detects faces to make "blind" picture-taking easier. The standard LED Flash will still be present next to the camera.

The Galaxy J2 2016 should be announced later this month for a launch in India. It is expected to carry a 720p display, entry-level SoC, 1.5 to 2 GB RAM, 16 GB eMMC, and rear 8 MP and front 5 MP cameras. The same device has been spotted at Bluetooth SIG for certification to be sold in the United States.
