A spacious 4TB SSD should put an end to the lack of storage that many PC users are probably struggling with these days. For owners of older desktop computers and laptops, a 2.5-inch SSD is still a viable option to tackle this issue, especially since popular SATA drives, such as the Samsung 870 Evo, have experienced many consecutive price cuts over the first half of 2023.
As a result, Amazon and Best Buy are now selling the flagship 4TB version of the Samsung 870 Evo for US$219 including free shipping, which is a brand-new all-time low according to Camelcamelcamel's price history and offers a whopping discount of 56 percent relative to the official price tag of this SSD. Just a year ago, this model variant of the Samsung 870 Evo was still priced well above US$400 and has since plummeted to much more consumer-friendly prices.
In contrast to the QLC-equipped sister model, the 870 Evo features more durable TLC NAND that should last for at least 2,400 TBW according to Samsung's official spec sheet. Obviously, this 2.5-inch SSD does not offer PCIe 4.0 speeds as it is constrained by the SATA standard that limits its sequential read and write speeds to 560 and 530 megabytes per second, respectively. As a secondary drive or replacement for a conventional spinning HDD, this SSD should be fast enough and it further offers a decent price-capacity ratio of US$0.055 per gigabyte. Meanwhile, enthusiasts who are also in need of additional storage capacity might want to take a look at an ongoing deal for a much faster 4TB solid-state drive from Western Digital.
