Ventana is first to offer a RISC-V data center chiplet design that features up to 128 cores clocked at 3.6 GHz. Thanks to its cluster design, the new Veyron V1 processors can also be scaled for automotive, 5G, AI and client applications.

Thus far, the RISC-V processor microarchitecture has seen successful implementations for desktop, mobile and specialized use cases such as EVs and space modules. Ventana now introduces the world’s first data center RISC-V-based processor that is touted as a competitive alternative to existing X86 solutions. The new Veyron V1 processor from Ventana is produced with 5 nm technology and can scale up to 128 cores, each running at 3.6 GHz.

Based in California, USA, Ventana Micro Systems was established in 2019 and has been focusing on developing RISC-V processors ever since. The company yesterday announced the Veyron V1 data center chiplets at the RISC-V Summit, mentioning that the technology can as well be scaled for automotive, 5G, AI, and client applications.

Highlights for the Veyron V1 chiplets include:

  • eight wide, aggressive out-of-order pipeline
  • 16 cores per cluster
  • multi-cluster scalability up to 128 cores
  • 48MB shared L3 cache per cluster
  • advanced security with side channel attack mitigations
  • comprehensive RAS features
  • top-down performance tuning methodology
  • IOMMU and Advanced Interrupt Architecture (AIA) system IP
  • development platform and extensive software support via SDK already ported to Veyron

“Our vision of delivering the highest performance RISC-V CPUs is helping to reshape next generation high performance open hardware architectures,” said Balaji Baktha, Founder and CEO of Ventana. “Today, we have a significant first mover advantage by providing a platform that can allow customers to innovate and differentiate. Markets which require high performance compute such as Data Center, 5G, AI, Automotive, and Client will all benefit from our open standards-based, ultra low latency chiplet solution that delivers rapid productization with significant reduction in development time and cost compared to the prevailing IP models. Ventana’s strong roadmap and customer engagement puts the company in prime position for sustained market leadership.”

The Veyron V1 is expected to ship to customers in the second half of 2023, and Ventana will continue to improve and refine this lineup in the coming years.
