A Reddit user has created and shared a simple and cheap mod for the Powkiddy V10 that slims the device down to a flat profile. The mod requires a little bit of work, including sourcing and placing in a smaller battery. It retains the full functionality of the device, including the shoulder buttons.

The Powkiddy V10 has a new mod option, courtesy of ocelot08 on Reddit, that makes the console perfectly flush on the back. The mod entails a simple 3D-printed backplate replacing the stock one, with a slimmer battery underneath. The full functionality of the device is intact, including all four shoulder buttons, though they're not quite as comfortable and easy to use. ocelot08 shared a set of instructions and data files, as well as details about the battery that was used in the mod.

In order to install the mod, users will have to either print up the new back themselves, or source it. There was at least one user in the comments of the original post who was willing to do the printing for others, as long as they can cover shipping and the cost of filament. They will also have to install the new battery, which may require some basic soldering. Other battery options may work, but it will be up to the user to ensure compatibility and fit. That may involve checking terminal setup, output parameters, and other details, and possibly even making slight changes to the printed part or stock parts.

The Powkiddy V10 stands out in the vertical handheld market thanks to its quality and the relatively robust Rockchip hardware beating at the heart of the device. The controls aren't optimized for 3D gaming, so the focus is on older titles, though it has been shown to be able to handle some Sega Dreamcast games. Anybody interested in this mod who doesn't have a Powkiddy V10 can get their hands on one for around $70 at many online retailers, including Amazon
