Pocket-sized power bank with dual USB-C cables aims to be your emergency backup

Anyone who has watched their phone battery drop to 1% while out and about will be familiar with that anxious feeling. Many people even start feeling uneasy long before that. Twelve South’s new PowerClip is positioned as a compact lifesaver in those urgent moments.

With a strong focus on portability, the handy power bank is designed for everyday carry thanks to its exceptionally compact and lightweight body. Unlike many hefty power banks, it isn’t meant to fully charge a smartphone or power a laptop, but rather to tide you over until you reach the next charging point.

The Twelve South PowerClip can be attached to bags and keychains using its integrated loop and the included removable zinc-alloy carabiner, ensuring you’ll always have a backup power source when you need it the most. The battery capacity is modest at just 2,000 mAh, but that is enough to get your phone’s battery into a “safe” zone. The power bank also only supports a sluggish 5-watt charging rate.

Thanks to its two built-in USB-C cables, the PowerClip eliminates the need for external cables and can charge two devices – such as smartphones and headphones – simultaneously. One of the cables also doubles as a power input for the battery. Passthrough charging is supported as well, allowing you to recharge the PowerClip and an external device at the same time. Recharging takes just under two hours, and a set of LEDs indicates the remaining battery level.

Priced at a rather steep $39.99 / €39.95, the Twelve South PowerClip is currently only available from the official online store in Mint, Fuchsia, Teal, Dune and Slate. The product is also expected to be available through Amazon at a later date.
