Philips has confirmed that some of its newer TVs are being updated with a Dolby Vision Filmmaker mode. These models already supported Filmmaker Mode for SDR and HDR10 content, and Philips is not the first manufacturer to offer the new tool. The feature was spotted during a test of a 2024 4K Amblight TV.

Newer Philips TVs are being upgraded with Dolby Vision Filmmaker mode, a tool announced at CES 2024. The models already supported Filmmaker mode for SDR and HDR10 content and now work with the alternative format. This makes Philips the second TV manufacturer, after LG, to offer this feature.

Filmmaker Mode was devised by the Ultra High Definition Alliance (UHD Alliance), backed by directors such as Martin Scorsese, Christopher Nolan and Denis Villeneuve. The tool is described as allowing you to watch movies and TV shows as the director intended. This is said to be achieved by disabling tools for motion smoothing, noise reduction, image and sharpening. On Philips TVs, the latest feature is called Dolby Vision Filmmaker and can be switched on via the picture menu.

FlatPanelsHD spotted the new Dolby Vision Filmmaker mode during a test of the Philips OLED809 4K Ambilight TV. Philips has since confirmed that all OLED TVs in its 2024 and 2023 ranges will be updated with the new mode. The company also indicated that it has worked on the tool with Dolby. Presumably, the feature is rolling out in software updates to eligible devices purchased without the upgrade.
