Pebble appstore launches on February 3
Back in 2012 the Pebble smartwatch made headlines after it gathered no less than 85,000 pre-orders and over $10 million in Kickstarter pledges, but that was only the beginning. Now the company takes it all to a whole new level by adding the Pebble Steel smartwatch and the app store that will provide an easy to use platform for downloading and managing apps for these wearables.
The Pebble Appstore launches on Monday already loaded with software from big names in the industry, including Foursquare, Yelp, GoPro and ESPN. The app store itself comes as a smartphone application for both iOS and Android devices, it is called Inception! and offers a comprehensive set of categories, as mentioned in the past.
The categories of the app store are Daily, Tools & Utilities, Remotes, Notifications, Games and Fitness. The Locker feature allows Pebble Appstore users to keep sets of eight apps at hand without installing them on the watch and allows easy management of such sets instead of individual apps.
Third party resources were very popular in the past, as Pebblers downloaded no less than 3 million themes and apps so far. According to Pebble, on Monday "there will be 500+ amazing apps and faces to choose from" and more will be added on a daily basis. The new Pebble Steel smartwatch is priced at $249 and shipments already begun on the 28th of January.
