A mysterious Intel Rocket Lake-S processor has been overclocked to an incredible rate of 6.923 GHz with the help of plenty of liquid nitrogen and probably a Gigabyte Z590 Aorus motherboard. A couple of video clips of the feat have been posted online, which also reveal the RAM speeding along at a more than devilish 6,666 MHz.

Just in time for an expected impending Rocket Lake-related announcement from Intel, we now have a couple of teasers shared by @PttpcWorld of an 11th Gen chip from Team Blue being blasted past 6.9 GHz. The overclocked processor wasn’t revealed, although it seems likely it was either the Intel Core i9-11900K or i7-11700K, as both of these would have serious overclocking abilities. A glance at CPU-Z in one of the clips reveals the Rocket Lake-S status of the mysterious CPU thanks to the cache memory amounts and instructions that are particular to the upcoming generation.

The Rocket Lake-S chip, seemingly in combination with a Gigabyte Z590 Aorus motherboard, was measured reaching 6,923.56 MHz during the overclocking event, while the 8 GB RAM involved in the experiment apparently managed a doubly demonic speed of 6,666.66 MHz. The CPU speed isn’t record-breaking, but it is a sign of things to come. We reported about a Comet Lake Intel Core i9-10900K managing 7.7 GHz but even that impressive figure is overshadowed by the current HWBOT world record CPU frequency of 8,722.78 MHz achieved back in 2014 with an AMD FX-8370 processor.

It could be some time, possibly even March, before Intel’s Rocket Lake-S parts are available to customers, so teasers like secretive rounds of serious CPU overclocking should help keep the processors in the minds of desktop PC enthusiasts waiting patiently for their next CPU purchase. Both the Intel Core i9-11900K and i7-11700K chips have already shown some impressive performance chops in synthetic benchmarks and overclockers will likely be drooling over the possibilities these Rocket Lake parts should offer.
