The Oura Ring, which first launched in 2015 through a Kickstarter campaign, shot to the top of most smart ring rankings, and has stayed there since. This is despite fresh competition from bigger players like Samsung, with its Galaxy Ring. In a recent hands-on comparison of six smart rings, The Verge pronounced the Oura Ring 3 as the best device overall for most users, echoing a sentiment from others like Android Authority. (Understandably, few of said publications could resist making Lord of the Rings references.)
Those who are wondering whether to avail the current discount or shell out a little extra for the just-launched Oura Ring 4 can read about the improvements here. Briefly, the gen 4 device captures the same biometrics, only with improved accuracy, thanks to what Oura calls Smart Sensing. The Gen 4 also brings a wider range of sizes, but eliminates the Heritage style with the flattened section, so if that design appeals to you, the Gen 3 is the one to go for.
Smart rings have some key advantages over smartwatches and wrist-based fitness trackers.
