Origin PC EVO15-S
The Origin PC EVO15-S is a member of the new generation of gaming laptops that slim down, while running graphics cards powerful enough to work with virtual reality hardware, such as the Oculus Rift or HTC Vive. Razer was a trailblazer in this category, and mainstream brands like Alienware are catching up. Now even Origin PC, a boutique PC builder known for massive no-compromise systems, has a slim 15-inch gaming laptop with one of Nvidia's new GeForce 1060 GPUs inside. As far as gaming laptops are concerned, the EVO15-S by Origin PC is one of the few that one can tote around with ease. It measures a slim 0.69 by 15 by 9.8 inches (HWD) and weighs a relatively light 4.3 pounds. It's also much more compact than a typical 15-inch gaming laptop. The EVO15-S looks like a black corporate laptop. There is a simple Origin logo on the lid, but it doesn't light up and that's just fine. It's a break from the traditional look of the many previous Origin PC laptops, even if the overall look of this matte black laptop chassis is a bit generic. That's because boutique PC builders like Origin PC, Falcon Northwest and others typically don't design and produce laptop bodies, which is a very expensive endeavor only a handful of big PC makers can take on. The anti-ghosting and the multi-color backlit keyboard does feature attractive lighting, which can be customised across three zones and a number of different modes. In addition to the standard Wave and Breathing effects, users can also set the keys to light up in sync with audio, which is a nice feature if the user might otherwise want to keep the light show to a minimum during non-gaming hours.
To further enhance the gaming experience, the EVO15-S features Sound Blaster Cinema 3 software supporting a premium class speaker system. The user can fully immerse themselves in today’s latest game titles and customise the sound coming from the EVO15-S' premium speakers or headphones. Despite the enhanced portability, this is a VR-ready system that combines the aforementioned GPU with an Intel Core i7-6700HQ processor (Skylake) and 16GB (2x8GB) of DDR4-2400 memory. That is plenty to power the system's 15.6-inch 1920x1080 IPS display. A 256GB NVMe M.2 SSD paired with a 2TB hard drive provides fast storage for apps and games with lots of room to shovel pictures, videos, and other data out of the way. The EVO15-S also has ample port options, for connecting VR headsets and more. On the left side, there is a security lock slot, an Ethernet jack, an SD-card reader, three USB 3.0 ports, a headset jack, and a microphone jack. The right side houses the power button, a USB 2.0 port, a USB-C port, an HDMI port, a Mini DisplayPort connector, and the power jack. In the top bezel, the user will also find a full-HD 30fps webcam. The Origin PC EVO15-S is a good high-end dedicated gaming machine for those who can't afford to get an Alienware or a Razer gaming machine.

The Origin PC Evo 15-S shows a premium gaming laptop, even a VR-ready one, doesn't have to be a backbreaker.

Overall, the Origin EVO15-S is an impressive machine. If you're in the market for a powerful gaming laptop, but don't want to haul around a heavy and bulky traditional gaming machine, the EVO15-S is worth checking out for your use case. It offers similar performance to much larger laptops with fewer compromises than most in its weight class.

The elephant in the room is all the rumors of impending new GPUs at CES. But the pattern that’s emerged lately with hardware has been simple substitutions. If you know the EVO17-S can run a GTX 1070 just fine, you know an equally fast GPU is likely to get rolled into the EVO17-S. We fully expect to see a very similar laptop to this with whatever GPU is announced.

Origin PC:
Origin PC is a US-American brand for laptops and desktops, especially for gaming. There are few reviews, the first one appeared in 2014. The ratings are average.
With these GPUs you are able to play modern and demanding games fluently at medium detail settings and HD resolution.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 Mobile: The mobile GTX 1060 is based on the GP106 chip and offer 1280 shaders. Compared to the identically named desktop version it features a slightly lower clock rate. Games in Full HD and maximum details should run fluently on the card.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Max-Q: Efficient high end graphics card for thin and light laptops based on the same GP104 chip as the normal GTX 1070 for laptops but at slower clock speeds. Offers a approx. 15% lower performance but much lower power consumption.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Mobile: Pascal based high-end mobile graphics card based on a cut down GP104 (like the GTX 1080) and GDDR5 graphics memory. Successor to the GTX 980M with a 10 Watts higher TDP. Similar to the desktop GTX 1070 performance wise, but with more shaders and lower clock speeds.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
6700HQ: Skylake-based quad-core processor for notebooks. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 530 GPU and is manufactured in 14 nm.
Intel Coffee Lake:
i7-8750H: On Coffee Lake architecture based processor for big and heavy laptops. Integrates six processor cores clocked at 2.2 - 4.1 GHz (4 GHz with 4 cores, 3.9 GHz with 6 cores) that support HyperThreading. Manufactured in an improved 14nm process (14nm++).
i9-8950HK: On Coffee Lake architecture based processor for big and heavy laptops. Integrates six processor cores clocked at 2.9- 4.8 GHz (4.3 GHz with 6 cores) that support HyperThreading. Manufactured in an improved 14nm process (14nm++). Offers an unlocked multiplier that allows overclocking of the CPU.

With this weight, a laptop is rather heavier than average. Devices in this range shine more with screen size and performance than with mobility.
77%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
