Tipster @UniverseIce spotted an Oppo forum announcement calling for beta testers for the phone maker’s new Android 11-based ColorOS 8 operating system. The forum post states that beta testers will be able to access the new version of ColorOS from September 7th onwards. The test is reportedly limited to users on the Oppo Find X2, Find X2 Pro, Reno3, and Reno3 Pro.
The beta test announcement is interesting since Android 11 hasn’t even been officially released yet (though developer previews are available). Early testing means that ColorOS 8 could be available to Oppo users when Android 11 launches later this year or shortly after.
Android 11 introduces a host of new features including native screen recording, notifications history, a COVID-19 exposure API, and richer conversation options in the notification shade. It’ll be interesting to see these features make their way over to ColorOS along with Oppo’s own additions. The upcoming beta will let at least some Oppo users try them out months earlier.
