Oppo has announced the A97 in China, after the device leaked last week through several sources. As expected, the A97 comes in two colours, machine-translated to 'It's dark at night' and 'Deep blue'. Also, the handset has a 6.6-inch IPS display running at 1080p and 90 Hz, above which Oppo has included a 12 MP front-facing camera.
In that vein, the A97 has a 48 MP primary rear-facing camera, along with a 2 MP depth sensor and a single LED flash. Despite having simple cameras, Oppo has elected to include a housing that spans a large area. Separately, Oppo has equipped the A97 with a 5,000 mAh battery that supports 33 W fast charging via USB Type-C. As with many cheaper smartphones, the Oppo A97 features a 3.5 mm headphone jack too, along with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.
Elsewhere, the Oppo A97 relies on the MediaTek Dimensity 810 SoC, 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. Predictably, Oppo pre-installs ColorOS 12 based on Android 12. Currently only available in China, the Oppo A97 retails for CNY 2,099 (~US$312); there is no sign of other memory configurations. While Oppo will begin shipping the A97 in China on July 15, it has not confirmed whether it will launch the smartphone globally yet.
