Onix's new Tocata XM2 digital audio player has been officially announced. It's a compact Hi-Fi device and scheduled to be available in December 2025. The player is priced at $439, and runs on the Ingenic X2000 processor with an in-house developed operating system.
The Tocata XM2 features a square 3-inch 720p OLED touch display along with physical playback buttons and a volume wheel. It weighs 140 grams, with dimensions of 82 × 65 × 18 mm. Storage is supported via MicroSD cards up to 2TB, and the device includes Tidal streaming and Wi-Fi (2.4/5 GHz) connectivity, along with DLNA and AirPlay. Two-way Bluetooth 5.2 is supported, with codec compatibility that includes LDAC, aptX HD, aptX, SBC and AAC. It can also function as a USB DAC and provides USB digital audio output.
The player uses Cirrus Logic’s CS4308P DAC, an 8-channel implementation that allows a fully balanced hardware circuit. Output options include both 3.5 mm single-ended and 4.4 mm balanced headphone ports. The 4.4 mm balanced output delivers up to 800 mW at 32 ohms in high gain, and 200 mW at 32 ohms in low gain. Total harmonic distortion plus noise is listed at 0.0005% (A-weighting), with signal-to-noise ratio at 121 dB and noise level at 114 dB (A-weighting). Output impedance is 0.7 ohms. The 3.5 mm port provides up to 204 mW at 32 ohms in high gain.
File handling includes PCM up to 768 kHz / 32-bit and DSD512. Battery capacity is 3000 mAh, charged via USB-C, with quoted playback time of up to 8.5 hours from both outputs. Remote control is available through the Eddict Player smartphone app.
The XM2 supports magnetic mounting cases as well (sold separately), which lets the DAP attach to smartphones for portable pairing and use with wireless headphones or external DACs.
Further regional availability details have not yet been provided by Onix as of writing.
