OnePlus: Serious USB weakness in the highly praised smartphone

The OnePlus Nord is a good mid-range phone, but the outdated USB 2.0 port could be replaced.
The OnePlus Nord is a good mid-range phone, but the outdated USB 2.0 port could be replaced.
The OnePlus Nord 6 impresses us, but has a clear flaw with the USB port. In particular, the lack of image output via USB-C noticeably limits its suitability for everyday work, gaming and creative use.

One of the most serious weaknesses of the OnePlus Nord 6 is the built-in USB 2.0 port, which does not support image output. This limitation significantly reduces the device's versatility.

Technical limitations in detail

Although the Nord 6's USB 2.0 port offers data transfer rates that are sufficient for everyday use, significantly faster data rates would be possible with a USB 3.0 or USB 3.1 port.

There is also no support for video output via USB-C. This means that users cannot simply connect an external monitor or VR glasses via cable to display content larger. Although the OnePlus Nord 6 comes at a middle-class price, it still lacks an important feature for professional and creative scenarios.

Effects on everyday life

This limitation is problematic for users who use their smartphone as a central interface for their digital environment.

A professional who regularly wants to give presentations on an external monitor can only do so wirelessly via Miracast. However, the monitor must support this. Or you can use additional adapters or other devices.

For gamers who want to connect their smartphone to VR goggles, the OnePlus Nord 6 is less suitable due to this limitation.

Comparison with other models

A USB 3.0 port is generally not common in this price range, but the Google Pixel 10a shows that it is certainly possible. Smartphones like the Nord 6 on the other hand, are limited in this respect, while models with the fast USB port enable seamless integration into external displays or VR glasses.

OnePlus' decision to forego this function therefore appears to be a deliberate compromise in favor of other features, such as the large battery or the fast charging speed. Or they deliberately want to keep features exclusive for higher-priced models.

Conclusion: A clear weak point

The USB 2.0 port without image output is a clear weak point of the OnePlus Nord 6 which limits the versatility of the device. This is a decisive disadvantage for users who want to use external monitors or VR glasses.

However, those who primarily value battery life and performance could accept this compromise. It remains to be seen whether future models will remedy this limitation
