OnePlus 3 Nougat beta coming this month
OnePlus 3 is a capable handset but lacks an essential ingredient - Android 7.0 Nougat. Fortunately, the arrival of the latest major iteration of Google's mobile operating system is near. First, a beta release should drop by the end of November. Then, just in time for Christmas - we hope - all OnePlus 3 users should be able to get the new firmware via OTA.
According to Engadget, OnePlus' software chief, Brian Yoon, confirmed the fact that "a Nougat beta "community" build would be ready for the OnePlus 3 this month." He also added that "once all the kinks have been ironed out, Nougat will be pushed out over-the-air to all OnePlus 3s by the end of the year."
Fortunately, OnePlus 2 handsets are also expected to receive Android Nougat. Sadly, Yoon mentioned no schedule for these older smartphones. Although OnePlus is a smaller company, after merging the HydrogenOS and OxygenOS teams, their update schedule is not far behind industry giants like LG or Samsung. Remains to see if they manage to keep up the pace and deliver Nougat to OnePlus 3 owners by the end of the year.
