OWC has introduced a brand-new premium TB5 dock with an exciting array of ports and networking options. Based on Thunderbolt 5, the dock is simply named the OWC Thunderbolt 5 Dual 10GbE Network Dock. As can be expected from OWC, the dock sports quite a premium design and features an aluminum enclosure.
The Thunderbolt 5 dock, at 8.3 x 3.4 x 1.4 inches, is relatively compact considering the amount of I/O on offer, and tips the scales at 900 grams or roughly 2 lbs. As of this writing, only one color option is available - black. As mentioned earlier, a plethora of ports are on offer, which have been detailed below:
- Thunderbolt 5 host port
- Triple Thunderbolt 5 Type-C ports
- Triple USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, single USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port
- Dual 10G Ethernet (rear)
- A single 2.5G Ethernet (front)
Display support is pretty admirable, up to three 4K displays at 144 Hz, or three 8K displays at 60 Hz, or two 8K displays at 120 Hz. An internal SSD slot is not present, which would have certainly been a sweet addition. The OWC Thunderbolt 5 dock unsurprisingly boasts a premium price tag of $499, and is already available for purchase.
Possible alternative: CalDigit TS5 Plus 20-port Thunderbolt 5 Dock, currently available for $500 on Amazon.
