The OM-System OM-5 was originally launched in October 2022, but the camera uses the same sensor as the Olympus OM-D E-M5 III from 2019. The 20-MP Live MOS sensor in FourThirds format is also installed in the new OM-5 Mark II, and the TruePic IX processor remains unchanged.
While the image quality hasn't improved much, the new edition of the OM-5 offers a series of long overdue upgrades. Firstly, the micro USB port has been replaced with a USB-C port, which can be used to charge the battery. The handgrip has been enlarged to improve ergonomics, while the menus have been modernized to the OM-3 standard, which should significantly simplify operation.
Another new feature is the "CP" button on the top panel. Holding it down while turning the thumbwheel allows users to directly access features such as the Live ND filter, Focus Stacking, HDR, High-Res mode or even Multi-Exposure mode. Those who don't use these features can reconfigure the CP button's function. The sensor is stabilized, allowing for sharp photos with exposure times up to 7.5 stops longer without a tripod. The 2.36-million-dot OLED viewfinder, the fold-out 3-inch touchscreen, and the 121-point autofocus system have been carried over from the previous model.
