Nvidia Game Ready Driver 616.56 is causing display problems for some users, including flickering

Nvidia regularly releases new Game Ready drivers to add support for newly released games and fix previously reported problems. However, it seems the latest update may be causing more problems than it solves for some users. 

Nvidia released Game Ready Driver 616.56 on August 26. The update was mainly designed to optimize systems for Star Wars Zero Company, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, and Hell Let Loose: Vietnam. It also included fixes for several existing issues, including a problem where the frame rate could exceed V-Sync in DOOM: The Dark Ages and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle when using DLSS Frame Generation 3x or higher. 

However, shortly after the driver became available, users began reporting display problems on Nvidia's forums and social media. One of the most common complaints is random screen flickering. What makes the issue particularly annoying is that it does not appear to be limited to games, as it can even happen on the desktop and while watching videos. 

Some users have also noticed sudden changes in brightness. In certain cases, the screen can briefly go black or become noticeably darker while browsing or doing other normal desktop tasks. Moving the mouse can cause the display to return to normal. Others have reported colors becoming oversaturated or otherwise looking incorrect before eventually returning to normal.

The good news is that Nvidia is already aware of the problem. An Nvidia staff member confirmed that the company is working on a fix for the display driver issue. However, the fix was not ready in time to be included with Game Ready Driver 616.56, and Nvidia now plans to include it in a future driver update.
