Reviews for the Novatech V14 743

If it wasn’t for Novatech’s lackadaisical approach to build quality the V14 would be a decent machine. Performance is quite reasonable thanks to the use of an ULV platform rather than the inferior Atom platform as it produces enough power to play 720p content smoothly. The most impressive aspect of the V14 is the screen. Novatech have used a good quality panel that has decent viewing angles, deep colours and, thanks to the LED-backlight it is more than bright enough to use outdoors.

We've seen a range of laptops from Novatech, from regular devices right up to high-end gaming machines, but the V14 4100 is the first CULV system. The Novatech V14 4100 has a lot to offer for the money. Costing the same as a high-end netbook, its portability is only marginally less, yet the reasonable performance, large interface and excellent screen make it a lot more practical for frequent daily use.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500M: The graphics core of the Intel GL40 and GS40 chipset features a slower clocked GMA 4500MHD (400 versus 533 MHz). Because of the slower core speed, full Blu-Ray Logo support is not given and the gaming performance is a bit worse.
Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.

Intel Celeron M: It is a Pentium M with halved level 2 Cache and limited on FSB 400. The characteristic of this processor is the speed, which is hardly slower than an equivalent Pentium M. However it can change the speed not dynamically like the Pentium M and therefore needs without load more current.
It is also available as Low Voltage Version with very small current consumption.
743: Ultra Low Voltage (ULV) processor for small and light subnotebooks. Does not support Speedstep (more power consumption in idle mode), 64 Bit, and Virtualization (VT-x).» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

There are hardly any tablets in this display size range anymore. For subnotebooks, on the other hand, it is the standard format.
The advantage of subnotebooks is that the entire laptop can be small and therefore easily portable. The smaller display also has the advantage of requiring less power, which further improves battery life and thus mobility. The disadvantage is that reading texts is more strenuous on the eyes. High resolutions are more likely to be found in standard laptops.

65%: Such a poor rating is rare. There are only a few notebooks that were rated even worse. The rating websites do not give a purchase recommendation here.
