Nokia officially unveiled the X6 smartphone last week, specifying that it will only be available in China. First pre-orders were scheduled for today – May 21st, and it seems like the Nokia X6 is indeed a big hit as Nokia already reported on its Chinese Weibo account that the entire stock of 700,000 devices sold in 10 seconds.
In case you missed the specs announced last week, here is a quick rundown. The X6 is powered by a mid-range Snapdragon 636 octa-core SoC clocked at 1.8 GHz and will come in 3/4/6 GB RAM variants with either 32 or 64 GB of storage that can be expanded up to 128 GB via microSD cards. It comes with a 5.8-inch TFT LCD that also features the infamous notch, which houses all the sensors and a 16 MP selfie. On the back there is a 16 MP + 5 MP dual cam setup and the fingerprint scanner. It will run Android 8.1 out of the box and will also include a 3.5 mm audio jack and a 3,060 mAh battery.
Nokia China mentioned that a second pre-order sale is scheduled for May 30 and the stock will hopefully be increased. Moreover, HMD Global Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas recently mentioned that the X6 will make its way to the Western markets soon. This probably has less to do with the presence of the notch, and more with the reputation of the Nokia brand, people’s nostalgia for the early 2000s and the decent prices.
