Nikon addresses failing Z8 strap lugs by telling retailers to yank on them before selling them and issuing replacement bodies when necessary
Shortly after the announcement of the Nikon Z8, it was the subject of a recall involving the lens mount. More recently, Nikon's latest full-frame mirrorless camera came under fire on social media for camera strap lugs that were detaching themselves from their cameras, sometimes costing photographers opportunities and time due to broken gear.
At the time that the issue first popped up, Nikon seemingly had yet to address the issue, but Nikon Rumors reported that Nikon is handling the loose strap lugs via its distribution network.
The only info I can give you is that Nikon informs the distributers to test the bodies. Aka yank the lugs with a strap connected. I also heard Nikon intends to test units for this flaw specifically when they come back for the recall.
A confidential source located in Europe has also reportedly confirmed that Nikon has advised retailers test the lugs before they sell any Z8 units. Additionally, Nikon has reportedly stated that they are investigating the matter, so it's expected that it will be handled one way or another, if Nikon's recall over the lens mount is anything to go by.
It's entirely normal to run into Issues in the initial production runs of a new product, but these sorts of failures tend to add inconvenience to consumers. Until Nikon addresses the faulty mounts more officially, it may be best to hold off upgrading to the Z8 unless absolutely necessary.
Until this update, it Nikon was seemingly taking care of customers with faulty lugs, as confirmed by a Notebookheck commenter who had his strap lugs fail, by issuing a new camera body, which is the right thing to do in the case of a manufacturing defect.
