The Nexoc M512 III (W650RC) covered in this short review is structurally identical to the M512 III (W650RB, Core i3, 940M) we tested simultaneously. The significant difference lies in this device's GeForce GTX 950M and Skylake Core i7-6700HQ. The Barebone label W650RC indicates this distinction.

This computer has a 15.6-inch FHD display and a strong hardware configuration, consisting of a GTX 950M, i7 and 250 GB SSD alongside a conventional hard drive - a veritable high-performance, multi-purpose machine. The gist: Nexoc is offering a way to play games and run applications in the comfort of your own home, with strong enough performance to keep the notebook relevant for years to come.

But the computer has a serious weakness: The cheap plastic case with a keyboard that feels almost wooden (unaltered since 2013). Yes, a well-equipped system can be sold at a lower price if it's housed in an inexpensive case - but it's up to the customer whether the savings justify the sacrifices in the areas of manufacturing quality, visual appeal, input devices and display. The performance deserves no criticism whatsoever, but these external weaknesses don't befit a device that Nexoc has priced at about 1070 Euros (~$1177).

Verdict

In review: Nexoc M512 III (W650RC). Test model courtesy of Nexoc.

Our verdict regarding this computer is very similar to our final impression of the M512 III with the Core i3 and 940M graphics chip (all other components are identical).

For 1070 Euros (~$1177), the M512 brings a ton of technological strengths to the table: Extremely high-performance (standard voltage comparison), a GTX 950M graphics card, a 250 GB SSD, wireless AC WLAN, and a terabyte of hard drive space, as well as a bright, matte, Full HD panel. The 15-inch device's price-performance ratio might have been praiseworthy, especially if it were configurable. But alas, the manufacturing quality is poor, and the case, input devices and TN TFT just aren't up to snuff for a modern notebook in this price class.

In the end, Nexoc makes the decision for or against the M512 III easy: Either you love it for the great hardware and price-performance ratio, or its poor manufacturing quality is sufficient reason to strike it off your list.
