Two independent sources have now corroborated that Tesla will remove the gear and turn signal stalks from the Model 3 and Model Y, and replace them with touch controls on the steering wheel and infotainment screen. In fact, Tesla will reportedly introduce the new round steering wheel of its upcoming Semi truck across its lineup of cars and SUVs.
There, its newly minted Semi pictures reveal, the stalks have been transformed into controls situated on a round steering wheel and apparently this will be Tesla's cost-saving strategy for the Model 3 and Model Y going forward as well.
Last year, Tesla introduced yoke steering on the Model X and Model S to a great horn actuator location disappointment and before long it had to start augmenting and improving it, but the decision was a harbinger of things to come for gear stalks and turn signals.
It has now become clear that the trend of touch controls on the wheel will continue, but Tesla doesn't plan to bring the yoke to its bestselling Model 3 and Model Y. Instead, it will remove all stalks and still leave the orthodox round steering wheel for the millions of its fans who dislike the yoke with passion.
Unfortunately, the second Tesla insider source who corroborated the Semi wheel proliferation claim, also advised that its arrival on the Model 3 and Model Y is contingent on the expiration of a current supplier contract which may push its release well into 2023.
