Garmin has confirmed that Health Status, a new sleep-related feature, is rolling out to users of some smartwatches. It was announced alongside the Venu 4 (curr. $549.99 at Amazon), like the brand’s new Lifestyle Logging feature. It is currently in beta testing in the Garmin Connect smartphone app, but is available for many users in the web app.
The Garmin Health Status feature centres around five metrics: heart rate, heart rate variability (HRV), respiration, skin temperature and Pulse Ox. This dashboard provides a snapshot of the data collected during your last night of sleep. Plus, your calculated typical range for each metric helps to provide some context; it appears that users need 21 to 28 days of data to calculate these ranges, with the message “Calibration in progress” shown in the meantime.
Users can choose to get notifications if an ‘Outlier’ reading is detected, which could point to poor sleep quality, higher stress levels or illness. Plus, you can click on each of the five sections in Health Status to view more details, including a graph for the last seven days.
Garmin is pushing its Health Status feature to users of its more recent smartwatches, including the Fenix 7, Forerunner 255 and Instinct 3 (see list below). Plus, users of the latest models, like the Fenix 8, Forerunner 570 and Venu X1 (see second list below), will also get an on-watch version of Health Status. This is expected to be pushed to users in upcoming updates.
