Netflix has officially confirmed recent rumors about its gaming expansion and announced that the new gaming features will be free of charge for existing customers. Furthermore, these games will not include any type of advertisements or in-app purchases.

In a public letter to its shareholders, Netflix has officially confirmed the consistent rumors about its expected foray into the gaming market. The letter provides further exciting details about the planned business model, particularly the fact that existing customers will not have to pay an additional fee to play games on Netflix.

According to the streaming company, video games are an important new category that is building on Netflix's previous efforts regarding interactivity. With Black Mirror Bandersnatch, the streaming service already experimented with content that was labeled as an interactive movie instead of a true video game. The development of Netflix's gaming service is still in its early stages, therefore a release date has not been announced yet.

Besides the fact that the gaming service will be free of charge for existing subscribers, CPO Greg Peters also promised that the games will not include advertisements or in-app purchases. The developers that are working for Netflix should solely focus on making great games instead of thinking about possible ways to monetize their product.
