EVGA promises to replace RTX 3090 GPUs that have been bricked by Amazon's new online game
It is a curious story that has made its rounds in the media over the last few days: The beta version of Amazon's new MMORPG New World has supposedly bricked Nvidia RTX graphics cards. While the exact cause of the issue is not yet known, one GPU manufacturer is stepping forward and promises affected owners of its RTX 3090 cards (US$2835 on Amazon) quick and easy replacements.
According to a recent report, EVGA will ship the replacement graphics cards even before the defective unit has arrived in their facility. This should calm the nerves of concerned high-end customers who have spent more than US$2,000 on a top-of-the-line graphics card. EVGA has further added a special category in its support system, which should speed up the RMA process that affected users have to initiate on the company's website.
Even though EVGA's customer-friendly policy is a step in the right direction, it remains unclear whether owners of less expensive GPUs will also receive replacements if the game has damaged their hardware. After all, there are reports that Amazon's roleplaying game managed to kill a bunch of different AMD and Nvidia GPUs from various manufacturers. Since it's almost impossible to buy another graphics card due to the worldwide chip shortage and continuous demand from crypto miners, one should hope that every gamer whose GPU has been bricked by the game will receive a timely replacement.
