Mozilla Firefox OS arrived on the market aiming to go head to head with Android. Unfortunately, this task turned out to be an impossible one for Mozilla. Now, a while after the only areas where Firefox OS remained present were smart TV sets and various IoT products, the fact that all development has ceased becomes official.
According to Mozilla's senior engineering program manager Julie McCracken, development of Firefox OS was "gradually wound down" and, unfortunately, at the end of July, the company behind the well-known Firefox browser decided to completely terminate it. However, the company's senior employee mentioned above also revealed an interesting fact - Mozilla has "stopped all commercial development of Firefox OS."
Considering the above, it looks like Firefox OS is now an excellent choice for third parties who might be interested in taking this mobile piece of code much further than it managed to go so far. For now, the system might still be found around in some smart TV sets like Panasonic, but remains to see when will the community deliver the first non-Mozilla Firefox OS. Until then, there is nothing else to do but hope for the best.
