MWC 2014 | Motorola to launch a smartwatch this year

Motorola to launch a smartwatch in 2014
Motorola round table event in Barcelona
The Motorola smartwatch will arrive later this year and will not run Tizen OS, confirmed company officials in Barcelona, while the new Moto X will also hit the markets in 2014.

Motorola started working on a smartwatch before Google sold most of the company to Lenovo and it looks like the Moto Smartwatch will launch later this year. Even more interesting, it seems the Google Watch made by Motorola is still in the cards, will be made by LG and could launch during 2014 as well.

The Moto Smartwatch was a topic of discussion during the round table in Barcelona where three Motorola executives talked about it, the new Moto X and the arrival of Moto Maker on the European market. While they did not mention an accurate release date, the company's executives confirmed that the upcoming smartwatch will not run Tizen OS and replied with a smile when asked about the plans to load the device with Android.

More than the above, Motorola Mobility confirmed on Twitter the availability of the smartwatch during 2014. A recent status says "We are working on a watch that will be available this year. We aim to address consumer issues like style & battery life" and leaves no room for misunderstanding: the Moto Smartwatch will be unveiled during 2014, it may probably hit the stores just in time for the winter holiday season.

On the other hand, since the new Moto X could arrive "sometime in the summer," it would not be a surprise to see it unveiled next to the smartwatch, but this remains to be seen. As soon as new information on the topic shows up we will get back to it, as 2014 already promises to be an interesting year when it comes to wearable gadgets.
