Motorola has announced the successor to the Moto G53, a smartphone that debuted less than a year ago. While not much time has passed since the release of the Moto G53, Motorola has still brought plenty of significant upgrades to the Moto G5x series. Specifically, the Moto G54 5G relies up on the MediaTek Dimensity 7020, a more powerful alternative to the Snapdragon 480+ that powers its predecessor.
For reference, the Dimensity 7020 combines two ARM Cortex-A78 CPU performance cores with six Cortex-A55 efficiency cores that MediaTek has clocked at 2.2 GHz and 2 GHz, respectively. In comparison, the Snapdragon 480+ utilises the same six Cortex-A55 CPU but at 1.8 GHz, plus a pair of weaker Cortex-A76 performance cores. Additionally, Motorola offers the Moto G54 5G with up to 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, as well as a 20% larger battery than its predecessor.
According to Motorola, the Moto G54 5G can recharge its 6,000 mAh battery at 33 W through its USB Type-C port; the device lacks wireless charging support, though. Moreover, the handset has a 6.5-inch IPS display that resolves at 1080p with a 120 Hz refresh rate, along with 50 MP primary (OIS), 8 MP ultra-wide-angle and 16 MP front-facing cameras.
Surprisingly, Motorola plans to release a different version of the Moto G54 5G in India. For example, the Indian variant has a 5,000 mAh battery that supports 15 W fast charging, with 15 W charging and a 2 MP sensor instead of an 8 MP ultra-wide-angle camera also offered. The Moto G54 5G starts at CNY 1,099 (~US$152) in China; Motorola will release the Moto G54 5G tomorrow in India.
