The successor of the notorious Motorola Moto G will use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, will be loaded with Android KitKat, and is expected to hit the market on September 10.

The Motorola Moto G is widely considered to be the best budget smartphone currently on the market, but has been around since November 2013 and it seems its successor will be available really soon - on September 10. The Moto G2, also known as Moto G+1, may begin shipping to retailers before the end of this month, but it is not clear if any sales will be allowed before September 10.

The Moto G2 is expected to cost about 250 EUR (roughly $335 USD), which is twice the price of the original Moto G and about 25 percent more than the Moto G 4G. Most of its specs are already known:

  • Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 with Adreno 305 graphics
  • Memory/Storage: 1 GB RAM; 8 GB, probably with microSD support as well
  • Display: 5-inch touchscreen with 1,280X720 pixels
  • Cameras: 2 MP front, 8 MP rear with 720p video shooting
  • Operating system: Android 4.4.4 KitKat

If the information unveiled by a Motorola rep to a retailer who leaked it to GSM Arena proves to be true, the Moto G2 will be revealed at IFA 2014 in Berlin, one week before its September 10 launch. The Motorola Moto X+1 is also expected to launch next month, so the company will complete the update of the entire smarthpone portfolio.
