Porsche announced its first electric Cayenne SUV, and the tease that it will feature a rare EV feature like wireless charging turned out credible.
The 2026 Porsche Cayenne doesn't need to be plugged in to charge at home, but can rather just drive over a charging pad, lower itself automatically, and begin topping up. The Porsche Wireless Charging system is a $6,000 option and includes a protected inductive plate set between the front wheels.
Porsche is the first automaker to offer one-box wireless charging for its electric vehicles, so any home, open parking, or garage can install the pad without having to also mount a wall box or controller, but just plug it into the mains instead.
The Porsche Cayenne charges wirelessly with 11 kWh speed and 90% transfer efficiency, while the pad and plate have numerous built-in safety features that can turn charging off if, for instance, a small animal or metal object get on the pad.
Porsche Cayenne EV price and specs
The 2026 electric Cayenne is the most powerful Porsche ever, coming with up to 1,139 HP for the Turbo trim. The 113 kWh battery is able to deliver 315 miles of range and can be charged 10%-80% in 16 minutes on a Tesla V4 Supercharger as it supports an up to 400 kW charging rate.
The new Porsche Cayenne catapults from 0-60 mph in just 2.4 seconds, while top speed is restricted to 162 mph. As usual, Porsche is providing many ride and interior comfort features, such as air suspension that automatically lowers the SUV over the wireless pad to start charging, as well as 5° rear-wheel steering and the Porsche Active Ride sports system, available for the first time on a Cayenne.
Inside, the new electric SUV has heated everything, from the seats to the door panels, while the panoramic glass roof comes with adjustable transparency. The curved OLED panel in the center console and the 14-inch OLED instrument cluster can be combined with a 15-inch passenger screen and an AR unit that can project a virtual 87-inch display 30 feet before the vehicle.
Porsche will be releasing its first electric Cayenne with optional wireless charging in the US this coming summer with prices starting from $111,000, or $165,000 for the 1139 HP Turbo trim. Porsche will be making the wireless charging system available at that time as well. At the time, Tesla should've already launched the Cybercab to its Robotaxi platform to compared its own take on wireless charging.
