The long-rumored Z2 Play is expected to be slightly thinner than the Z2 and with a smaller internal battery while maintaining compatibility with existing MotoMods.

Quandt has grown to be a very popular insider on all things smartphones and tablets. According to his latest tweets, the upcoming Moto Z2 Play should be able to support the same MotoMod accessories as the current Moto Z. This includes the external Bluetooth speaker, battery, and projector attachments that have been available for well over a year. The Z2 Play is even a full millimeter thinner than its Z2 predecessor.

The catch, unfortunately, is that the Z2 Play will carry a slightly smaller 2820 mAh battery compared to 3000 mAh on the Z2 and this may have a slight impact on battery life as a result. Lenovo looks to be sticking with a 5.5-inch FHD display but with a Snapdragon 626 SoC, 4 GB of RAM, and 64 GB of internal storage space. The rear and front cameras are expected to be 12 MP and 5 MP, respectively, with no apparent plans to follow the trend of incorporating dual rear cameras.

Though Lenovo has yet to officially reveal the Z2 successor, the leak is pointing towards an early June reveal with initial Gray, Black, White, Gold, and Silver color options. See our review on the first Moto Z Play for more information on the series.
